Final Girl: Us

Yesterday, I launched my latest passion project: a mini-series podcast about feminist themes in horror movies and TV shows. The first episode tackles Jordan Peele’s Us, privilege, and solidarity.

The title of the podcast, Final Girl, comes from the popular trope in television and film that refers to the “last woman standing” or sole survivor, typically in a slasher film. According to the TV Tropes page on Final Girl,

[T]he character seems to be the living embodiment of stereotypical conservative attitudes of what women “should be”. On the other [hand], feminists have noticed that through this device, the males in the audience are forced to identify with a woman in the climax of the movie.

Final Girl – TV Tropes (emphasis mine)

This is the goal of the show: to explore horror through the eyes and lives of interesting female characters who divert from tired, repetitive horror movie stereotypes.
